THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (NEC) MEMBERS
The President: Rev MM Booysen
He shall be a full-time minister who is in charge of a Circuit. A minister so elected must at least have completed seven years experience in Ministry after ordination.
DUTIES:
- To give spiritual leadership to the COCM and act in utmost good faith and responsible manner.
- To watch over the interest of the COCM, on counselling and guidance when it is appropriate within the provision of the Scripture (Bible), the Constitution, the spiritual advancement of the COCM and its general well being.
- To preside over the sessions of the Conference at which he shall have assumed office, and always act in protection of the COCM matters.
- Should necessity arise to make any change in the appointment of ministers to fill any vacancy which may occur? Mostly ministers are invited by local churches/ circuits to serve.
- To apply on behalf of minister to the Department of Home Affairs for marriage officers.
- To approve or otherwise recommend the suspension from office of any minister.
- To help in resolving the disputes within the Local Churches/Circuits and Regions.
- He shall assist in establishment of committees as stated in Article IX, Paragraph 9.7.
- To officiate an Ordination service for the newly ordained ministers.
- To officiate the funerals of all ministers and their wives.
- The President of the COCM on behalf of the COCM is empowered to institute and defend any action in a Court of Law, either brought by or against the COCM, and to take all such steps and to do all such things as may deem necessary to carry the matter to its conclusion.
Deputy President: Rev MP Sithebe
He shall be a full-time minister who is in charge of a Circuit. A minister so elected must at least have completed seven years experience in Ministry after ordination.
DUTIES:
- He shall assist the president in all matters.
- He shall be responsible for the management of the COCM office.
- He shall deputise for the president in the first instance.
- In the absence of the president, his duties shall devolve on the deputy president.
Secretary General: Mr J Kokwe
Shall be any eligible baptised member who have been an uninterrupted member of the COCM for more than five (5) years.
DUTIES
- He shall take minutes in all NEC meetings.
- He shall post the minutes of meetings of the NEC and the National Assembly within three (3) months of such meetings.
- He shall have charge of and be responsible for safe custody of the records and office property of the COCM.
- He shall conduct the NEC correspondence and keep copies of all correspondence handled by him in his official capacity.
- To manage the day to day operation of the COCM.
- To interpret and apply COCM policy in response to contemporary events.
- To act as primary public spokes person for the COCM.
- To report to COCM structures on COCM activities.
- To appoint and supervise departmental and programme directors.
- To ensure the implementation of programme plans and policies.
- To facilitate fund raising on behalf of the COCM.
- To circulate notices and agenda of the Executive meetings and business meetings among all members of the Executive meeting.
Deputy Secretary General: Mr L Liwana
- Shall be any eligible baptised member who have been an uninterrupted member of the COCM for more than five (5) years.
- Shall be responsible for all duties of the Secretary General in his absence.
- Other duties may be assigned to him by the Secretary, the NEC or the National Annual Assembly.
Treasurer: Rev M Ndlokovane
Shall be any eligible baptised member who have been an uninterrupted member of the COCM for more than five (5) years.
- DUTIES
Shall be responsible for the receiving of all the funds of the COCM. - Shall keep proper records of the income and expenditure of such funds.
- Shall be responsible for disbursing the funds as the NEC would direct.
- Shall see that all the funds of the COCM be managed according to the General Accepted Accounting Practice (GAAP), and as stipulated in this Constitution and in the financial policies.
- Shall prepare a draft budget for the objectives of the COCM to be tabled for ratification by the finance committee.
- Shall make the necessary payments on behalf of the COCM, and keep all receipts and proofs for reference sake.
- Shall oversee in conjunction with the financial committee the financial position of any organization recognized by the COCM when authorised by the NEC.
- Shall give a detailed written Financial Report at every AGM of the COCM.
- In all financial policy decision making, he shall work in conjunction with the Finance Committee immediately when such committee has been appointed by NEC.
The Director of Buildings: Rev H Jaxa
Shall be any eligible baptised member who have been an uninterrupted member of the COCM for more than five (5) years.
- DUTIES
To oversee all affairs concerning the COCM Church buildings. - To update the existing number of Church buildings with new and old sites.
- Have a list of records for financed and non financed Church buildings.
- To make sure that all building applications are accompanied by the title deed and building plan documents.
- To verify that the structure has been erected according to the approved submitted building plan.
- Before any financial decision for roofing, he must make sure he pay a visit to inspect the local churches readiness or appoint someone in consultation with the Regional Representative to do that.
- After the roofing has been done, he or the person previously appointed must pay another visit to double check the work done.
- He must present the list of the Churches and their budgets to the NEC for financial assistance.
- The final step should be the treasurer who is going to make the payments to procure the required building material.
Director of Evangelism: Rev JJ Blaauw
- Shall be any eligible baptised member who has been an uninterrupted member of the COCM for more than five (5) years
- Shall be a mature person of Christian character, who is committed to Christ and the expansion of His kingdom and has shown spiritual gifts in various aspects of evangelism and church planting.
- He shall be an able administrator motivated by the Spirit of service who commands the respect of church leaders and the Christian community at large.
- He must be in complete agreement with the teaching of the New Testament as generally understood within the Church of Christ tradition
DUTIES
- Shall be the administrative head of evangelism and Church Planting
- Shall set a personal example of an “evangelistic lifestyle” for the leadership of the COCM.
- Shall do on-going research of “best practice” in the areas of church planting
- Shall have responsibility for the development of a church planting strategy.
- Shall have responsibility for the development of training programs for personal evangelism.
- Shall have responsibility for the developing and promoting programs to help local churches in community evangelism (evangelistic crusades and other forums of outreach)
- Shall prepare and present a comprehensive report of the work of Evangelism and Church Planting for the current year to the Annual National Annual Assembly of the COCM.
Youth Director: Rev IM Mfeka
Shall be any eligible baptised member who have been an uninterrupted member of the COCM for more than five (5) years. Must have worked with the youth.
DUTIES
- He shall be appointed by the President in consultation with the NEC.
- He shall work in conjunction with other Regional youth ministers.
- He shall serve to advocate and network for youth ministry through the COCM.
- He shall monitor to ensure that the unique gifts and talents of youth are present in all aspects of the life of the Church.
- He shall monitor the youth activities throughout the entire COCM, such as Sunday School, Youth Camps, Youth Conventions, Youth Retreats and National Youth Seminar.
- He shall be responsible for the formulation of the curriculum, year plan on youth activities and programmes.
- He shall report to the NEC on issues, developments and concerns in youth ministry in Church and society.
